About Tony McDonald

Tony McDonald is a contemporary visual artist whose work combines painterly texture with a focus on light and darkness. Born in 1963, McDonald completed a Bachelor in Visual Arts in 1984 at City Art Institute (now College of Fine Arts, UNSW), in 1985 he completed a Graduate Diploma in Art Studies at City Art Institute and in 1987 completed a Graduate Diploma in Art Education. McDonald lives and works in Sydney, where he is Head Teacher, Fine Arts at Meadowbank TAFE College. McDonald's recent work explores nocturnal images of the urban landscape. Light flickers in these evocative works, where commonplace images of parks and city buildings are transformed into mysterious night-time theatres of the unexpected and the uncanny.
