Beachhouse 1

Frances Brown, 2012

“Beachhouse 1”, is a screen printed image of a 1950’s beachhouse, of the type that is often being knocked down and replaced in the current craze for redevelopment.  The colours are non naturalistic, evoking a dream-like state and childhood memories of holidays at a beach cottage similar to this one.

About Frances Brown

Artist Statement
I originally studied for a degree in Biological Sciences, and an interest in the natural world and the environment generally informs my work.
Now a Visual Artist, my fields of expertise include design, photography, printmaking and digital imaging. My work is often a combination of these artforms, such as photographs being digitally modified and then used as templates for handmade prints.
A major theme of my work over the past 2 years has been the changing urban and suburban landscape particularly the redevelopment of Sydney and the Australian coastline. I also have an interest in mid century design, particularly the furniture and textiles of the 1950’s which is a recurring theme in my printmaking.
